A stove can explode.. If the gas ignites, it will cause an explosion inside the oven. However, most modern ovens have a protective function built in.
Yes, you heard that right. A furnace can actually explode. But that has less to do with the fact that the stove is bad, but more to do with the fact that, as you probably already know, it is highly flammable.
But you don’t have to worry about your oven just exploding though, this happens very, very rarely, and large companies naturally invest huge sums of money to make their products as safe as possible.
What you should pay attention to is, of course, first of all to read the safety instructions on the instructions for your specific oven, and WHAT you put in the oven is also very important. – Of course when it’s already happened.
That doesn’t include explosives or fireworks. However, here are a few things that definitely don’t belong in the oven.
Damp wood or treated wood such as impregnated, glazed, coated wood, wood fiber or pressed boards can explode in your furnace.
Fossil fuels such as crude oil, lignite, hard coal or natural gas are also not allowed in your furnace.
Paper briquettes or the incineration of waste paper will damage your furnace or your health in the long term.
The incineration of waste produces harmful gases which also damage the components of your stove.
Simple rule: If it smells and looks bad, something is not going right.
What causes an oven to explode?
First of all, a furnace doesn’t usually explode on its own.
In the case of a gas stove, it may well happen that it explodes because the gas did not light up in time. If the gas escapes, a spark is enough to create an explosion.
The dangerous thing about gas is, of course, that you hardly notice it when gas is spreading in the room, the gas is harmful to health and only a small change is enough to make the whole room explode. For this reason, it is important to have a modern stove in the house that also meets all of today’s safety standards.
However, it often happens that there was no explosion per se, but simply the glass from the furnace cracked. This often gives the impression that the furnace has “exploded”. In fact, even the thickest glass in the world can simply shatter over time. The problem with glass is that if there is a splinter in the glass or a minor mishap, that nobody notices at first. The glass can hold up for years after the accident, until the pressure becomes too high and the glass finally shatters. Unfortunately this is usually by the time the guarantee has long since expired. For this reason, we recommend ovens with a guarantee of at least 5 years to be on the safe side.
What happens when your oven pops?
There are a number of reasons why your oven could suddenly start popping. It is important to know what exactly triggered the popping. First check the inside of your stove, was there anything in it that doesn’t belong in it? If you didn’t throw any fireworks in your stove by chance, you can rule out this cause.
If your stove pops or makes similar noises after you’ve used it but it still works properly, there is usually no need to panic. The metal cools down and often makes these noises. Sometimes the ventilation is a bit rusty or the whole construction is a bit out of date.
If your stove makes this noise and then stops working, than that’s an insurance case. You may not like to hear that, but if you don’t have the right know-how, you should not experiment with your stove, otherwise your insurance could be invalidated and you could lose a lot of money.
So the cause of the stove popping is rarely dangerous. It can be triggered by the construction of the furnace, by what is inside, or by a problem with the fuse.
Should you see flames in an oven / a gas oven?
It is normal for flames to appear for 1-3 seconds while the gas oven is being operated. If the flame is visible beyond the time, it may be due to an air flow or poor gas, in which case the manufacturer should be contacted.
However, you should switch off your stove immediately if the flames spread too quickly and smoke clouds form.
The reasons for this can be various, sometimes a malfunction of the furnace. In any case, you shouldn’t just experiment with the stove afterwards, but rather consult an expert who can rule out other reasons.
Perhaps what you put in the oven is also the reason for the fire or leftovers from past meals. If possible, clean your oven after every use to prevent some kind of mishap. Because if the manufacturer finds out, he will hardly want to reimburse you for the furnace!
What is the highest temperature An oven can go?
The temperature of a furnace in the interior can reach a maximum of 300 degrees. The temperature of the tubular heater is between 800-900 degrees.
In the case of electric ovens, the following temperatures apply to levels 1-3.
Level 1: Up to 240 degrees
Level 2: up to 260 degrees
Level 3: Up to 280 degrees
The oven works by heating air in the upper or lower chamber of the oven and flowing it onto the object to be heated.
In addition, the ring heater on the fan brings a lot of momentum in by blowing the hot air directly into the confined space like a hair dryer.
Upper vs lower heat
With the top and bottom heat, the heat is generated by so-called heating rods or heating coils. These can either be used separately or together.
In contrast to the circulating air or hot air, no air is swirled around in the oven. It is a static heat that is increasingly distributed in the room.
With the circulating air, there is also the fan as a reinforcement. It distributes the heat evenly throughout the entire room. In this way, cakes and other baking items are quickly heated from all sides. The advantage here is that you can prepare several things on several levels.
The advantage of top and bottom heat is that the food is cooked slowly and therefore does not get a crust at first. And therefore does not dry out too quickly. In this way, for example, scrambled cakes and bowl cakes, muffins, biscuits or cake bases remain juicy, while they would have dried out with the circulating air.
